Eurovision 2021 without Belarus. The reason is the political nature of the song

For the first time since 2004, the representation of Belarus will not play at Eurovision. The European Broadcasting Union decided that the song “Ya Nauchu Tebya”, submitted by Galasy ZMesta, violates the rules of the competition, because it is not apolitical. The team of Galasa Zmesta does not hide its political inclinations – there are, among others, during the rallies of the President of Belarus, Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

“Ya Nauchu Tebya” refers to the political situation in the country and causes political controversy. The song is heavily criticized on YouTube – the Belarusians themselves have appealed to remove it from the competition. The song was also criticized by the official Polish portal eurowizja.org, where the statement stated: “In our opinion, the team of Galasa ZMesta negates fundamental human rights, and this year’s Belarus proposal has a political context and propaganda dimension. Thus, it contradicts the regulations of Eurovision.”

On March 11, the European Broadcasting Union gave Belarusians an ultimatum – either they will send a new song that will not have a political tone, or they will be removed from the competition. The new piece has not been sent and Belarus may say goodbye to the competition.

Official messages from Belarus were critical from the moment the political nature of the song was negatively assessed. On March 11, BTRC television reported that the organizers of Eurovision “cannot come to terms with the popularity of Belarusians”, and Alyaksandr Lukashenka added that “pressure is starting from all sides”.
