Eurostat: Poland with the highest inflation in the European Union

Poland has the highest inflation in the European Union, according to Eurostat data. In October, prices in our country increased by 3.8 percent. Hungary came second.

According to Eurostat data, prices in Poland in October – compared to the same period in 2019 – increased by 3.8 percent. This means that our country recorded the highest inflation in the European Union. And this is the second month in a row.

They were in second place Hungary (3 percent), and the third Czech Republic (2,9 proc.).

In turn, many member states struggle with deflation. In Greece, prices fell by 2%, in Estonia by 1.7%. and in Ireland by 1.5 percent.

Across the EU, prices increased by 0.3 percent. – the same as in September. Eurostat also calculates that inflation fell in 15 EU countries, remained in the same place in two and increased in ten.

Eurostat calculates inflation slightly differently than the Polish Central Statistical Office. According to the Central Statistical Office, in October prices increased by 3.1 percent. year on year, while 0.1 percent. month to month.

On Monday, the National Bank of Poland also released data on inflation net of food and energy prices. According to the bank, core inflation was 4.2 percent. The prices of some goods, mainly clothing, fell slightly. However, the prices of services, especially insurance, went up.
