European regulator examines the use of Moderna’s anticovid vaccine in children under 5 years of age (EMA)

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) declared on Thursday that it began the evaluation of the use of the Moderna vaccine against Covid-19 in children between 6 months and 5 years, the last age group that has not yet been vaccinated.

“We started the evaluation of a Moderna application to expand the use of Spikevax to children from six months to five years, and it is the first application” for this age group, Marco Cavaleri, head of vaccination strategy, told a press conference. of the EMA.

US biotech company Moderna already made a similar claim in the United States last week after trials showed its injections were safe and caused a strong immune response.

Children are less vulnerable to the virus than older people, but they can still contract and transmit it.

They may have severe cases of Pediatric Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C).

The EMA had approved in February the use of Moderna’s anti-Covid vaccine for children 6 years of age and older in 27 countries of the European Union.
