In the case of advancing to the playoffs of the UEFA 2021/2022 European League via Lincoln Red Imps, ŠK Slovan Bratislava footballers will meet the unsuccessful from the Olympiakos Piraeus / Ludogorec Razgrad duo.
It was decided by Monday’s draw at the headquarters of the European Football Union (UEFA) in Nyon, Switzerland, with the Slovak champion playing the first match on the opponent’s field.
The opening playoff meetings are scheduled for August 19, with retaliation a week later. Slovan started the European pilgrimage in the Champions League, in the 1st preliminary round he advanced through the Irish Shamrock Rovers (2: 0 at home, 1: 2 away).
In the 2nd preliminary round he was not enough for the Young Boys Bern, after a home goalless draw he lost in Switzerland 2: 3 and “fell” into the 3rd preliminary round of the European League. In it, he will compete with the Lincoln Red Imps from Gibraltar, and if he advances, he will face a confrontation with a Greek or Bulgarian opponent.
The “whites” have experience with both cup experiences. They lost to Olympiakos twice in the 3rd preliminary round of LM 2009/2010 0: 2. Five years later, Ludogorec was also above their strength, whom they defeated at home in the 2nd preliminary round of LM 2014/2015 2: 1, but in retaliation they succumbed to a class difference of 0: 3 and said goodbye to the competition.
If Slovan did not manage to confront the Gibraltar opponent in the 3rd preliminary round of the EL, he would continue in the playoffs of the newly created competition of the European Conference League (EKL).
