European judge considers Super League, a decision could take a year and a half Football

sport">The plan by twelve top European clubs to say goodbye to the Champions League and from now on play against each other in an almost closed competition, led to indignant reactions from supporters, other clubs and from the European football federation UEFA. Nine initiators quickly decided to withdraw under great pressure and the plan has therefore been canceled for the time being, but FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus are holding on. Even though that meant a disciplinary procedure and therefore they risk, among other things, exclusion from European football. The clubs are now before the Madrid court against UEFA.

sport">The Enterprise Chamber in Madrid now wants to know from the European Court whether UEFA should not grant clubs the freedom to organize their own matches under EU rules, as the clubs argue. They accuse the football association of forming a cartel and hindering free competition.

sport">It could just take a year and a half before the court in Luxembourg can give a definitive answer, a spokesperson said. The clubs and UEFA will probably not speak in court until after the summer.

sport">In the meantime, the European Court will not interfere with any punitive measures against the clubs. That is up to the Madrid Enterprise Chamber. He can, for example, decide to suspend a sanction as long as there is no judgment from the judge.
