European Commission: Corona Apps Can Work Together From Next Month – IT Pro – News

Corona apps from European member states, such as CoronaMelder in the Netherlands, can work together with a gateway server in Luxembourg from next month. That says the European Commission. Users don’t need to install other apps when they cross the border.

The gateway server in Luxembourg must provide a bridge between the back-end of the corona apps in various Member States, reports the European Commission. T-Systems and SAP will set up and manage the gateway.

A test with the national apps in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Latvia will start this month. In October, all corona apps must be able to connect to the gateway. This allows them to exchange data and thus warn users of different apps.

The system is designed in such a way that users do not have to install different apps for different countries. One country’s national app is enough to get notifications even when users are in one of the other supported countries.

It is no surprise that the corona apps will work together. Last month already came out that the European Commission had ordered to enable collaboration between the various apps. The Dutch app is Coronamelder. It can already be installed, but many GGDs do not yet support reporting an infection.
