European Championship qualifying matches Orange Women moved from April to October | NOW

The European Championship qualifying matches for the Orange Women in April have been definitively postponed due to the worldwide coronavirus outbreak. The team of national coach Sarina Wiegman would play against Kosovo and Estonia next month.

The game in and against Kosovo was scheduled for April 10. The Orange women would face Estonia in Groningen four days later. The tickets for that second game will remain valid for the time being.

The European Championship qualifying matches will be made up between 19 and 27 October. That period was actually intended for the playoffs for the European Championship 2021, which therefore also have to be held at a later time.

The Orange women are well on track with a view to qualifying for next year’s European Championship. The vice world champion won the first six games and is proudly at the top of group A, which also includes Russia, Slovenia, Turkey, Kosovo and Estonia.

It is not yet certain that the European Championship for women will be played in 2021. UEFA wants to look for a different period, because the European men’s championship was moved from 2020 to 2021 on Tuesday. So there is a chance that the European Championship for women will go to 2022.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezes and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Nearly all deaths involve the elderly or other frail, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
