The Bavarian Insurance Chamber has revised its tariff for the volunteer fire department. The local council shows understanding.
Eurasburg – How time flies. The Bavarian Insurance Chamber has had “work accident and group liability insurance” since 1978, which the municipality takes out annually for the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district. As insurance for the firefighters of all three local voluntary fire departments.
Eurasburg Volunteer Fire Department: Insurance for volunteer work tripled
For this, Eurasburg was billed an amount of 625 euros for the 2023 financial year. Now, 45 years later, the Bavarian Insurance Chamber has revised the insurance: In addition to the services, the prices have also been adjusted. According to the offer drawn up by the Insurance Chamber, 1,896.74 euros will be due in the future for the currently 161 active firefighters. This is a tripling of the previous amount.
The insurance chamber justifies the hefty price increase by saying that the insured sums are “sometimes still at the level of 1978 or earlier,” and adds: “Back then, a VW Golf in basic equipment cost around 9,000 marks – in 2022, a VW Golf in basic equipment cost around 9,000 marks 28,500 euros.”

Despite the tripling of the insurance sum, local councilor Tobias Bergmann has concerns. “In my opinion, the sums are too little: twelve euros per firefighter.” At the most recent local council meeting, he asked the question: “Shouldn’t we value safety anymore?”
The sum, which according to Mayor Moritz Sappl “is taken across Bavaria”, is so cheap because it acts as collective insurance across the entire district, added municipal treasurer Markus Gerold. “In addition, the benefits have already increased significantly.” No details were disclosed at the meeting.
The insurance chamber also put the service insurance to the test. Here the annual contribution increases from 297.50 to 535.50 euros. The sum insured increases from 20,000 to 50,000 euros. At its last meeting this year, the local council unanimously decided to accept the revised offers.
