Eugenie Bouchard propels the Smash

Eugenie Bouchard posted two 5-1 wins, in singles and doubles, to lead the Chicago Smash to an 18-15 victory over the Springfield Lasers at World Team Tennis on Wednesday in West Virginia.

Along with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, the Quebecker first won the women’s doubles event against Catherine McNally and Hayley Carter. She then came in relief for Sloane Stephens in singles, again against McNally.

In total, “Genie” took advantage of three of his five break points. She was particularly effective with her second serves, winning 80% of rallies in such situations.

By virtue of this victory, the Smash remains in second place in the standings, behind the Philadelphia Freedoms. The first four teams at the end of the season will be playoffs.
