Eugenie Bouchard bows to Sloane Stephens in South Carolina

Quebecer Eugenie Bouchard was defeated in two innings of 6-3 and 7-6 (7) by the American Sloane Stephens, Friday evening, at the Invitation Credit One Bank, which is disputed in Charleston, South Carolina.

Bouchard missed out on advances in both the first and second sets. In the first run, after taking the lead 2-0 and 3-1, she found no answers against Stephens. The latter won five consecutive games to remove the heat.

In the second set, Bouchard screwed up a 5-3 and 4-1 lead on a tiebreaker and finally lost.

It was Bouchard’s second game in this tournament, which is not part of the WTA circuit. Thursday evening, she had the best on her young compatriot Leylah Annie Fernandez.

Contested on clay, this team competition brings together 16 players and raises funds for workers at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Besides Bouchard, Fernandez and Stephens, Sofia Kenin, Madison Keys, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Emma Navarro, Victoria Azarenka, Amanda Anisimova, Monica Puig, Ajla Tomljanovic, Danielle Collins, Alison Riske, Shelby Rogers and Jennifer Brady are present.
