EU wants early flu vaccinations due to possible second corona wave | NOW

The simultaneous outbreak of a corona and flu wave in the fall is not inconceivable, the European Commission Wednesday. That is why the European Union advises member states to shift the annual flu vaccination programs to this summer.

“A simultaneous outbreak of the flu and COVID-19 will put significant pressure on health systems,” said the European Commission.

The published document describes how European countries can prepare for a second corona wave and how to avoid a “cocktail of risks”.

In addition to bringing forward and expanding influenza vaccination programs, the number of corona tests should be increased, according to the European Commission. All countries must conduct contact investigations as efficiently as possible.

Brussels hopes that corona apps will be developed for this. However, to date, only 10 of the 27 EU countries have launched such an app.

The European Commission’s recommendations are not binding.
