The European Data Protection Commissioner Wojciech Wiewiórowski condemned the draft in an interview with the Bild newspaper: “Measures that give authorities general access to the content of communications meet the fundamentals of the right to privacy. Even if the technology is only used within the planned limits, its impact is so bad that it is not compatible with the European Charter of Fundamental Rights”.

The portal Netzpolitik.org published the Draft of the European Commission (PDF = 135 pages). “Proposal for a REGULATION OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL – laying down rules to prevent and combat child sexual abuse”. In it, the EU wants to oblige the operators of messenger services, but also Internet service providers, to use technologies that prevent the spread of child pornography and the recruitment of children (grooming) on the Internet.

As the picture newspaper reports, the Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, sees no problem for measures to scan private communications at EU level.
