Estonian Minister of the Interior: Ukrainian Citizens Living in Estonia Not Subject to Mobilization

Lauri Länemets, Minister of the Interior of Estonia, has emphasized that, according to international laws, it is not possible for Ukraine to mobilize its citizens living in Estonia, as this requires an agreement between the two countries.

Lanemets pointed out that about 7,500 Ukrainian citizens eligible for military service live in Estonia, but those citizens who live in the country permanently can avoid mobilization. This does not apply to those Ukrainians who came to Estonia after the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia.

“According to the laws of Ukraine, single parents, parents of at least three children, parents of disabled children and persons who take care of a loved one are also not conscripted into the army. Namely, there are quite a few criteria that determine whether a person is eligible for mobilization,” Lanemetes explained.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia stated that Estonia is ready to help Ukraine in the extradition of these citizens.
