Riad Touiti, lawyer for Tunisian Esperance Club, revealed the truth of the threats received by Ahmed Ahmed, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), to clinch the African Champions League title in favor of Esperance after the crisis in the last edition of the tournament.
Morocco’s Wydad filed a complaint with the Tunisian sports court against Esperance, against the backdrop of the Rades final crisis. In turn, the court requested the testimony of Ahmed Ahmed, president of El Kef, who was present in the match to hear his testimony.
According to Moroccan reports, Ahmed Ahmed confirmed during his testimony before the court that he was threatened by Esperance officials to give the title to the Tunisian team and consider Wydad to withdraw after he refused to complete the match due to the lack of video technology on the field.
During statements reported by the Moroccan newspaper, “le 360”, Esperance’s lawyer denounced the threats received by the president of CAF, Ahmed Ahmed, by the president of Esperance Hamdi El-Medab, stressing that what happened does not exceed normal talks imposed by the circumstances of the match, which prompted Kef to take disciplinary sanctions against Esperance And his boss was fined.
Al-Tuwaiti denied that Al-Tarji has a legal responsibility that obliges him to ensure the presence and work of the video referee, pointing out that this task is within the competence of “the CAF” and that the absence of the video referee technique does not require receding from or canceling the match.
The Esperance lawyer explained that Wydad officials raised a new point and accused Tunisian officials of the lack of security from the said final, and that its president, Moroccan club Said Naciri, stressed that his team suffered from organizational and security problems during the final match.
Al-Tuwaini pointed out that Wydad officials returned to confirm that they did not withdraw from the match, and that the Red Team appealed to the African Union’s decision, which informed the referee of the match, Curry Jassma, to end the match, consider the Moroccan team withdrawn, and the Tunisian team declared a winner of the continental title.
