Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela has recommended Atalanta defender Cristian Romero a decision – but will apparently not play with him.
That’s according to The Mirror (07/25, p66), who say Tottenham hope to sign Romero this week after having further talks with the Serie A club over a deal.
Lamela is reported to have told Tottenham to take a step for Romero, possibly knowing all about him from Argentina national team duty.

It sounds like a strange claim. Tottenham director of football Fabio Paratici signed Romero for Juventus in 2019 before loaning him to Genoa and Atalanta.
Paratici will already know all about Romero, so he hardly needs Lamela’s contribution here.
Still, maybe Lamela was able to give Romero an everyday glimpse, as the center-back hasn’t played a single game for Juventus.

Romero now looks set to join Tottenham in a big move, but the odd twist of this story is that Lamela won’t even be playing with Romero in north London.
El Desmarque has posted footage of Lamela arriving in Spain to join Sevilla on a partial swap deal, with winger Bryan Gil heading to Tottenham.
Lamela’s eight-year spell with Tottenham is coming to an end, but her last farewell gift may have been the hugely exciting capture of Romero, helping to seal this deal in a way.
