Causing some commotion to put your biography in the spotlight is always included. But the statements that Erica Meiland (57) made in the Netherlands last week are so spicy that it rains hate reactions.

Her book reads: “There is really no girl who wants to ride a bicycle in the summer with a headscarf on. You just want to feel the wind in your hair. That’s freedom. I am also in favor of a burqa ban. Fuck off with your burqa.”
On Friday she repeated those statements in the talk show of Eva Jinek. She said she really doesn’t believe that wearing a burqa is done voluntarily. “If you have the freedom from childhood to make your own choices and to dress as you please and get respect and be equal to your brother, then you are not going to cover yourself of your own free will.”
People are now calling her “Islamophobic” on Twitter. Daughter Maxime is also the target of hate reactions because of the statements. Someone wishes her and her baby cancer. (tove)
