Erdogan Condemns EU’s Stance on Israel-Hamas Conflict and Calls for an End to Violence in Gaza

Erdogan told the media on his return from a visit to Kazakhstan, the Pan-Arab newspaper reported Ašark al-Awsat. As a result, confidence in the EU is “deeply shaken”, the Turkish president added.

At the same time, he said that he had severed contacts with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu because of Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip. “Netanyahu is no longer someone we can talk to. We wrote him off,” he said, stressing that the Israeli prime minister bears responsibility for the violence in Gaza and that he has “lost the support of his own citizens.”

“They have to take a step back and stop it,” Erdogan added, however, saying that Ankara would not cut ties with Israel per se. “Complete severance of ties is not possible, especially not in international diplomacy,” Erdogan said, according to television al-Arabija.

According to Erdogan, the main criminal responsible for the massacres in Gaza is the West

The president also confirmed that the head of Turkey’s MIT intelligence service, Ibrahim Kalin, was trying to broker an end to the war in Gaza. “He is talking to the Israeli side, but of course he is also negotiating with Palestine and Hamas,” he added.

According to Erdogan, the Gaza Strip must become part of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state after the end of the conflict. Turkey will not allow the Palestinians to be gradually “erased from history”, he stressed.

Ankara has criticized Israel’s retaliatory actions in the Gaza Strip from the very beginning and has made it clear that Hamas is not the terrorist organization that Western countries label the movement as.
