Surabaya. Public Info – Approaching the turn of the year, health problems due to the rainy season should be watched out for. Because, various diseases are believed to more easily attack the body during the rainy season. Especially now that Covid-19 cases are still popping up.

According to the Lecturer of Epidemiology of the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Universitas Airlangga (Unair) Laura Navika Yamani, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D, the rainy season causes the body’s resistance to drop. This condition makes it easier for various infectious diseases to penetrate the body’s defenses.

“Similarly in countries with four seasons, the immune system usually decreases during winter. During the rainy season or winter, the production of immune cells will decrease,” explained Laura, in Surabaya, Friday (11/26/2021).

Laura said, the symptoms of Covid-19 when associated with diseases that appear during the rainy season are similar to Influenza.

He continued, influenza is a seasonal disease that most often appears during the rainy season. It’s the same with diarrhea.

“When it rains, it usually rains heavily, causing floods and puddles. It can also lead to sources of infection in contaminated water. So it could be diarrhea, influenza, or Covid-19,” he said.

Maintaining health in the rainy season during the pandemic according to Laura is not much different from the dry season, either with or without a pandemic. First, because it is still a pandemic, he suggested that people continue to apply the 5M and health protocols.

In addition, he continued, a healthy lifestyle is also important. You do this by adjusting your diet, getting enough rest, and keeping your mind from getting stressed easily.

“Stress does not only trigger the Covid-19 disease, but also any diseases if we are already stressed, it is more vulnerable,” he asserted.

Laura also emphasized the importance of exercise and exercise to keep the body in shape. Although there are times when the weather is often cloudy during the rainy season, it makes the body feel lazy to move, exercise can be done anywhere, including at home.

Not to forget, the consumption of vitamins and supplements is also needed so that the body remains strong for activities. He said the supply of vitamins and healthy food by adopting a healthy lifestyle can increase immunity during the rainy season.

“So if we don’t balance it with nutritious food, get enough rest, control ourselves so we don’t get stressed, have a healthy lifestyle, our immune system can decrease even more. So this is something we have to watch out for so that we are not vulnerable,” he said.

According to Laura, this year the community is more experienced in dealing with the rainy season during the pandemic. Moreover, entering this year, the public has received the vaccine. Even so, a healthy lifestyle must still be done.

He feels that the impact of this vaccine is not only to protect us from Covid, but other diseases related to the respiratory tract are also lower.

“However, we cannot rely solely on vaccines. Continue to apply a healthy lifestyle and identify as early as possible the conditions of changes in the body,” said Laura. (MC Diskominfo East Java Province/non-mad/toeb)
