Bandar Lampung (Lampost.co) – Eradication of mosquito nests in clean water or water that is accommodated is a step to anticipate and control cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). This is because the median clean water is a breeding ground for the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which carries the dengue virus.

Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Epidemiologists (PAEI) Lampung, Ismen Muhktar, said that local governments can carry out mosquito nest eradication activities through village officials, civil servants, RT, and the community.

“Preventive measures should have been taken from the start. Because the dengue outbreak is not a matter of handling health, but rather anticipating measures to prevent the development of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito,” he said by telephone, Monday, January 10, 2022.

According to Ismen, during the rainy season with a high intensity like the current one, it is not impossible for dengue cases to increase. Therefore, before the cases of residents infected with dengue become more widespread, it is necessary to promote joint hygiene maintenance activities between government and community elements.

“The mosquito carrying the dengue virus is the breeding ground for clean water, not water in drainage channels and others. More in water reservoirs at home, namely tubs, even rainwater that can be accommodated outside the house,” he said.

According to him, prevention is an easy and cost-effective way to do fogging, which only focuses on adult mosquitoes.

“Residents also don’t be careless when it’s been fogged. It’s not finished yet. Because there are still many eggs, mosquitoes, and mosquito larvae that are ready in the next 10 days to drip and become adult mosquitoes,” he said.

Ismen continued that along with the high intensity of rainfall, the Aedes Aegypti mosquito remained. However, not so much during the rainy season.
