To contain the epidemic of coronavirus in Mexico, the federal government will allocate 3,500 million pesos to buy from medical equipment, to laboratory equipment, supplies for hand washing and disinfection as well as support ventilation, informed the Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López – Gatell Ramírez.
“To contain the epidemic, we would anticipate some 3.5 billion pesos in the different supplies, medical equipment, laboratory supplies, diagnostic supplies, personal protection per patient, supplies for hand washing and disinfection, and support ventilation. In this effective response, the entire federal government is involved, from the president to the last governmental organization that may exist, including the Ministry of Health who coordinates said strategy, “he said.
During the morning conference at the National Palace, the undersecretary commented that the epidemic can last in the country, at least 12 weeks, what lasted in China, so he called to remain calm, to follow preventive measures such as frequent hand washing, etiquette greeting, not attending mass concentration events and avoiding the spread of rumors.

“It will not be a short epidemic, it can last for at least three months, which lasted in China, peaked and fell, not necessarily due to extreme containment measures, so that would be the minimum scenario in Mexico, there could be spikes that will prolong the mitigation and control measures ”.
He emphasized that the measures taken in the Republic are planned in advance according to the COVID-19 scenarios and that the capacity of society to maintain them cannot be exhausted.
“If one takes these measures early, they are useless later, we cannot, we must not exhaust society, let us remain calm, which does not mean neglecting, but rather focus on what serves as basic measures; wash your hands, take care of the sneeze, effective recovery, you don’t need to confirm coronavirus to stay home if you have a fever, for example. ”
The undersecretary stressed that in an articulated way it was decided to suspend classes at all educational levels from March 23, but that if there are entities where they have specific mechanisms in the face of social dynamics, there is no problem that there is no school activity from today, as it happened in various states.
“The date chosen was March 23 for concrete mechanisms to be articulated between 17 and 20 due to the dynamics, but it was a decision planned in advance, it was neither emergent nor hasty. They were also invited not to attend mass concentration events and to stay informed by trusting, respecting and analyzing the founded information and not spreading rumors that only give spirals of confusion that affect, perhaps more than the virus ”.
