Enzo Fittipaldi joins Red Bull F1 training programme[F1-Gate.com]

Enzo Fittipaldi has joined the Red Bull F1 driver academy.

Enzo Fittipaldi (21) from Brazil will compete full-time in FIA-F2 with Charouz Racing System this season. He has six podiums and is sixth in the standings.

“Joining the Red Bull family of reigning F1 champions is a great honor and a very important step in my career,” said Fittipaldi.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity and would like to thank Red Bull, Dr Helmut Marko and Christian Horner for their trust in me.”

Red Bull F1 motorsport adviser Helmut Marko quoted Enzo Fittipaldi’s appeal to Charouz.

“He played in the midfield team,” said Helmut Marko.

“He’s always been on top. I think he’s had his ups and downs. Now he knows he has a chance. He comes in with the top team, Carlin, and has good character.”

When asked about his goals for 2023, Helmut Marko said: “We’ll see how he performs. As always, we’ll see the results.”

Helmut Marko has confirmed that not all of Red Bull’s F2022 drivers will remain in the program for 2023.

“We will announce soon who will leave and who will be new.”

Meanwhile, Helmut Marko has stressed that Liam Lawson would benefit from participating in the Japanese Super Formula scheduled for 2023.

“He will race in Super Formula. It’s a difficult place. The Japanese drivers know every inch, they know every track. It’s not easy.”

He also confirmed Norwegian F2 driver Dennis Hauger will be promoted to the F1 team’s reserve driver role for 2023, alongside Liam Lawson, who is not always available due to race weekend collisions.

“We have some reserve riders, the other is Hauger. For now it’s been decided. And we’ll see how it goes at the start of the season. There will be disagreements, but from young people. Two or three people”.

Enzo Fittipaldi’s grandfather, Emerson Fittipaldi, won the F1 world championship in 1972 and 1974 respectively. His older brother Pietro Fittipaldi has started two races for the Haas F1 team and is a reserve driver this season.

Brazil has been without a full-time driver on the F1 grid since Felipe Massa retired at the end of 2017. Felipe Dolgovic won the FIA-F2 championship this year and will become Aston Martin’s reserve driver in 2023 .
