English vs German both have weaknesses ahead of the meeting in the last 16 Euro 2020 (Euro 2021). A weakness that could be a time bomb for both teams when they meet at Wembley Stadium.
Two eternal rivals in international football, England vs Germany, will meet in the round of 16 of Euro 2020 at Wembley Stadium, Tuesday (29/6). The long history of rivalry between the two teams makes this match will be interesting.
Let’s start with the meeting statistics. If you look at the history of the meeting, Germany is only slightly ahead with 15 wins. While England won 13 wins with four of them ending in a draw.
If we reflect on the record of the meeting between the two teams, Germany deserves to be seeded. Because Der Panzer has only lost once to England in competitive meetings. That defeat came in the 1966 World Cup final at Wembley, when England won 4-2 through extra time.
After that Germany almost always made England languish in competitive matches, even at Wembley though. 25 years ago England lost on penalties to Germany in the Euro 1996 semifinals at Wembley. The only England penalty taker who failed at that time was Gareth Southgate, who incidentally is the current coach of the Three Lions.
However, statistics are history. History will not help Germany to beat England at Wembley tonight. Moreover, both England and Germany have a fairly balanced strength if you look at their appearance in the group stage.

One might say that Germany has had a tougher test in the group stages against France and Portugal. But in fact, Joachim Low’s team still struggled against Hungary in the last match of Group F. Germany needed Leon Goretzka’s goal to equalize 2-2 at the end of the match and qualify for the round of 16.
No matter how difficult the team’s condition is, Germany always gives the best performance against England. However, Germany needs a change or a new face in the pattern of the game if it wants to beat England.
