The story Margarēta Māra Zālīte after the work of Johann Wolfgang Goethe Fausts wrote in 1998. Director Reinis Suhanovs had seen the play at the Riga New Theater. This show in 2000/2001. was recognized as the best original drama production of the season. Rein Suhanov remembers that he liked the show very much, even though he did not even think about theater studies at that time.
But then “came the Covid19 pandemic and also various documentary events in this regard in the world. In the spring there was news that in Nigeria Zoom on the platform sentenced a person to death at a court hearing. I have questions about humanity! We get to the point where we can say through a digital device that a person is sentenced to death, “says Reinis Suhanovs. He believes that the hit is in the top ten – judging by the situation. that the content and structure of the play allows to reveal deep layers in an interesting way, because the characters in the show meet not “live”, but – using a computer screen.
The story is about a woman Margaret, who has been in prison for twenty-five years. The new lawyer assigned to her by the state has found that Margaret is not to blame for any of the three episodes of the murder, but the woman has meanwhile convinced herself to the contrary during her years in the cell. A computer is brought to Margaret’s prison cell and a meeting with a lawyer can begin. The lawyer is determined to resolve the ancient case.
This strange time of limitations makes you look for a more unusual form for the solution of the show, and the audience who will watch the show in the theater will experience the opportunity to be from different points of view. Those spectators who will watch the first act in the Margaret Prison cell will be in the lawyer’s office in the second part, while those who will watch the show at home online, will be able to be event observers, connecting to one or another game room, choosing to watch through a computer or surveillance camera. Everyone will be able to put together their accents, assembling the show from their own emotions. “The combination is complicated. If someone becomes a fan of the show, then it will be possible to watch the show in different ways.
