Emirati Astronauts Sultan Al Neyadi and Warren Hoiberg Communicate with Public from International Space Station in Washington

Washington, August 25, WAM / The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center, in cooperation with NASA and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington, organized a “meeting from space” in the United States of America, which provided the public with the opportunity to communicate directly with astronauts Sultan Al Neyadi and Warren Hoiberg from aboard International Space Station. The event was attended by His Excellency Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States of America, and a number of officials from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center and NASA.

The United Arab Emirates and the United States have a close partnership, cooperating in space exploration and aerospace research. In addition to participating in missions aboard the International Space Station, future Emirati astronauts receive training with their counterparts at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

During the live call, the two astronauts spoke about their mission aboard the International Space Station as part of the Crew-6 crew, as they entered their sixth and final month in space.

The Emirati astronaut is engaged in the longest space mission in the history of the Arabs, which extends for 6 months, and during this period he succeeded in achieving an important achievement. Where he became the first Arab astronaut to perform a walking mission outside the International Space Station, and this was done last April. With this achievement, he added the name of the United Arab Emirates to the distinguished list, which includes only 9 countries that have succeeded in carrying out walking missions outside the space station.

Sultan Al Neyadi said during the call: “My dream since childhood is to become an astronaut. I grew up in the city of Al Ain, where the sky is clear and calm, away from noise and pollution. I used to look at the stars every evening and contemplate the possibilities available for space exploration. And here I am now on the International Space Station, With my colleagues from NASA and around the world, we are a harmonious and diverse family that complements each other.”

“Meet from Space” was preceded by a panel discussion moderated by American comedian Steve Harvey. This session focused on Emirati-American cooperation in the field of space, in the presence of His Excellency Salem Al Marri, Director General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center, Karen Feldstein, Assistant Director of International and Interagency Relations at NASA, and Hazza Al Mansouri, the first Emirati astronaut, who talked about the importance of bilateral cooperation To promote scientific discoveries.

Commenting on the close Emirati-American cooperation, His Excellency Yousef Al-Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States, said: “Even millions of miles from Earth, Emirati-American cooperation remains strong. From the Hope probe mission to Mars, to training astronauts and carrying out current missions aboard International Space Station, the two countries are cooperating to promote scientific discoveries and pave the way for our youth to build a brighter future.

His Excellency Salem Humaid Al Marri, Director General of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, said: “We at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center believe that progress comes through international cooperation, and our partnership with NASA is a vivid example of this. The event was attended by a number of diplomats, current and former US government officials, as well as a number of students.

This event comes as a conclusion to the “Meeting from Space” series organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center, which attracted a large number of attendees from all over the United Arab Emirates, to communicate directly with astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi during his mission aboard the International Space Station.
