Emirates has quietly announced another postponement of the 777X until 2023

The longest passenger plane in the world will be put into service with passengers at the earliest in 2022 in the colors of Lufthansa.

Emirates will not put the new Boeing 777X into service until 2023. According to a single sentence that the carrier “hid” in a press release about the introduction of a new premium economy class aboard the Airbus A380.

This is a several-time postponement, according to the original plans, the new long-haul aircraft from Boeing on the Emirates routes was already in operation. Emirates and Lufthansa were to be the first customers. Meanwhile, Lufthansa has postponed the deployment of the aircraft until 2022.

Emirates did not specify the reasons for the further shift, the press release only mentions the year 2023. The carrier stated that the new premium economy class will be used in these new aircraft as well. During the year, the company claimed that it expects to operate in 2022 at the latest. The reason for the further delay may be both the current situation in the industry and the delay in testing the aircraft, which has already completed hundreds of hours of test flights.

Emirates originally ordered a total of 150 777X aircraft in the 777-8 and extended 777-9 versions. Part of the order, however Emirates škrtly and buy dreamliners instead. Emirates is the largest operator of Boeing 777s in the world, currently with 155 in its fleet.

Testing continues with four aircraft

The airlines have so far ordered 344 of this aircraft from Boeing, but some have already begun to limit orders.

The aircraft has folding wingtips to allow the use of existing airport infrastructure and at the same time take advantage of the longer wing in flight. The span will be 72 meters. The aircraft will be the longest passenger aircraft in length, measuring a total of 76.7 meters.
