The Laurentians Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) asks “the population with non-emergency health problems to opt for other solutions than going to the hospital”. The establishments concerned are the hospitals of Mont-Laurier, Saint-Eustache, Saint-Jérôme, Lachute, Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts and Rivière-Rouge.

At the Rivière-Rouge hospital, emergency services are also reduced from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. every day due to a lack of medical imaging personnel.

“People who are not seriously injured or ill must opt for solutions other than going to the hospital, such as Info-Santé 811, their family doctor, the GAP or the network of pharmacists”, indicates the CISSS by press release.

Laurentian hospital emergency rooms currently have an average occupancy rate of 165%, the worst result of any region in Quebec. Mont-Laurier hospital (280%) has the worst record, followed by Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts (178%), Saint-Jérôme (168%), Saint-Eustache (163%) and Lachute (138%). Only the service center in Rivière-Rouge shows a positive balance with an occupancy rate of 40%.

If the situation is particularly critical in emergency rooms in the Laurentians, the recommendations of the CISSS are not exceptional. The CISSS de Lanaudière published a press release similar to that of the Laurentians at the beginning of the month.

Invited to take stock, spokespersons for establishments in many regions of the province also ask patients to consider Info-Santé, their doctor or a clinic for their non-emergency health problems.

This is particularly the case for the regions of Chaudière-Appalaches, Mauricie–Centre-du-Québec, Capitale-Nationale, Outaouais, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Côte-Nord, Laval, Montérégie and various centers in Montreal.

Many point to the difficulties caused by the resurgence of COVID-19 cases, the shortage of staff and the summer holidays.

“The instructions are always the same, all year round, at all times: you are asked to use the services wisely,” summarizes a spokesperson for the CRSSS de la Baie-James. “Emergency services should be used for emergencies. »
