Embarrassing faux pas in the Eintracht game: DAZN causes a huge wave of outrage

Eintracht Frankfurt’s home game against Bochum was marked by the departure of Jürgen Grabowski. But DAZN probably didn’t want to accept that completely.

Frankfurt am Main – It was probably one of the most emotional game days in the history of Eintracht Frankfurt. But that the first game after Death of legend Jürgen Grabowski († 77) something so special in the home stadium seemed to leave the broadcaster DAZN pretty cold.

Because during the broadcast of the game between SGE and VfL Bochum, the streaming provider made some fairly unnecessary faux pas – and that even before the actual game had started.

On the conference channel offered especially for the exceptionally parallel games (Frankfurt/Bochum, Borussia Dortmund/Arminia Bielefeld), an advertisement was shown shortly before kick-off.

At the same time, the club’s anthem “Schwarz-weiß wie Schnee” was being sung in the Deutsche Bank Park in the Hessian Main metropolis.

Particularly piquant: In the text of the Tankard classic, Frankfurt’s veteran Grabowski is repeatedly sung about – these emotions were, at least partially, withheld from the viewers on the screen.

As if this hadn’t been enough excitement for the Adler fan heart in addition to the game and the 0:1 break deficit, DAZN reporter Ann-Sophie Kimmel (28) went one better.

During the half-time break, she spoke to Eintracht hero and Grabowski teammate Karl-Heinz “Charly” Körbel (67), but she didn’t seem quite aware of who was actually standing in front of her. And so she addressed her counterpart with “Mr. Grabwoski” – ouch!

Admittedly, there was practically the certainty written all over her face that she was now saying something wrong. However, it was all useless. Körbel downplayed the situation, reacted coolly and then found a few nice words in memory of his friend and sponsor in Eintracht dress.

At this point at the latest, people on the internet were much less merciful: people on Twitter in particular were extremely upset about both situations. “Are you completely kidding me?” or “Really dishonorable by @DAZN_DE, that you advertise during black and white like snow and only catch the end. Really irreverent” was to be read there.

There was a short apology from the streaming station – at least on Twitter: “We are so sorry! We made a mistake in the conference stream,” said the DAZN reaction.

Whether that’s enough to permanently pacify the Eintracht fans – extremely unlikely. The 2:1 comeback victory of the SGE against table neighbor Bochum, after the team had eliminated the deficit at the break with a lightning double strike.

And so there was a happy ending for the fans on this emotional Sunday evening and a worthy “Grabi” farewell.
