LENZERHEIDE. Slovak biathlete Ema Kapustová achieved her career best in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

On her 21st birthday, she managed to win 41st place in the 7.5 kilometer sprint, which is the first unscored position. She missed the first point in her career by 4.1 seconds.

France’s Justin Braisaz-Bouchet became the winner, she is joined on the podium by Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold and Lisa Vittozzi.

The only Slovak in the sprint surprised

Slovak biathlon is full of surprises. Sometimes it may seem that the situation is hopeless, but it ends up with the opposite result.

In the third round of the World Cup, Slovakia was able to send only one female competitor to the race. Also junior Ema Kapustová.

The rest of the biathletes either have health problems (Henrieta Horvátová, Júlia Machyniaková) or they already planned a training session for this date with their coach before the season (the Remeňová sisters).

However, Kapustová achieved a sensational result in only her fourth individual start in the World Cup. She confirmed that she is an exceptional shooter.

On Thursday, she shot down all 10 targets. In addition, she was one of the fastest on the shooting range. She fell behind her rivals in running.

Kapustova ran out of strength in the last round. She finished in the 31st place from the second shooting event. At 2.5 km, she lost more than 70 seconds and dropped by 10 rungs.

“Today’s performance was better than the previous one, I’m satisfied with the 41st place. I was close to the points, but it doesn’t matter, I have all the more motivation for the fighter. I felt pretty good on the track, but it’s a shame about the last lap, where I already had enough enough.

In addition, there were difficult icy descents on the track, during which I had to keep my feet together so that my skis wouldn’t fly off. I went as much as I could.

I left everything there, I am also satisfied with the shooting, which was rhythmic. In the fighter, I will try to maintain my position and fight for the best possible result,” the specialized portal quoted Kapustová as saying slovenskybiatlon.sk.

The best result of the season

She was only seconds away from the top score.

“Today’s performance was much better than the previous ones. I was very close to the points, but it doesn’t matter. I have all the more motivation for the pursuit race. I felt good on the track. It’s a shame about the last section. Today there were more difficult downhills, they were icy and my skis were flying ,” she evaluated the performance for slovenskybiatlon.sk.

The 41st place is the best Slovak result this winter. Paradoxically, it was achieved by the youngest representative who can still compete in junior competitions. Her performances are a great promise for the future.

In addition, Kapustová just celebrated her 21st birthday on Thursday. Even before the season, she said that junior competitions would be a priority for her. Among the seniors, she basically fills in for the injured Horvátová.

“I’m very satisfied with the shooting range. Because I managed to shoot very rhythmically and quickly. We’ll see how it turns out in the fighter. I hope I can move forward,” she added.

“It’s different to race in your age group. The World Cup is also about something else for me. It’s mostly experience and it’s the highest league. Sometimes I would also like to compete with junior girls, but I tell myself that I have nothing to regret,” Kapustová responded to RTVS before the start.

He will be able to win the first place in points on Saturday, when the pursuit race is on the program. Kapustová runs to the track with a loss of 2:48 minutes to the winner. However, he has a real chance to win the first points in the World Cup.

Justine Braisazová-Bouchetová won her first victory in the sprint. However, she achieved it after returning to her biathlon career after a maternity break.

“I am very happy. The conditions were difficult and I had to concentrate on the track. But it was a great day and I’m looking forward to seeing my daughter and my husband,” commented the Frenchwoman on the race.

Ingrid Landmark Tandrevoldová secured the first place in the overall success of the World Cup, finishing second.
