The ANP News photo of the year 2021 is not the first prize Bart Maat wins with this photo, rather the photo was chosen by EenVandaag as the political moment of 2021.

“What I realized most this year is that photojournalism can really make a difference,” Maat said after receiving his award. “I think it’s nice to see that what we do has an impact.”
Right moment
Jury member Leo Blom (freelance image consultant) praised the photo as ‘a striking example of the right moment’. The public can also appreciate the photo, Maat also won the ANP News Photo of the Year Audience Award. In addition to the honour, Maat will receive a cash prize for both prizes.
