Elon Musk presented the humanoid robot Optima, he will water the flowers and work in a factory

AndX-centric billionaire Elon Musk ceremoniously presented a humanoid robot prototype called Optimus. He claims his he auto company Tesla will be able to produce millions of them and sell them for less than $ 20,000, which is one-eighth of what his Type Y electric car costs.

The Tesla owner said he expects to receive the first orders within five years.

Robot Optimus, named after the main character of the Transformers cartoon series, appeared on stage in the Californian city of Palo Alto as a rock star, greeted the audience and shrugged. Viewers saw a video in which Optimus is watering the garden, carrying a box, or tightening metal ties in the Tesla factory hall. It is no coincidence, according to Musk’s plans, his robot should be universal and work like an industrial robot in factories. The development of the robot was announced by Musk last August as part of the effort to develop artificial intelligence so that Tesla becomes a leader in this field and is not perceived as a manufacturer of “cool cars”.

“It took a lot of work to perfect the Optima. But in five or ten years it will be a completely impractical robot,” said Musk.

According to him, the main problem with current robots is that they “don’t have a brain”, and therefore the ability to solve problems on their own. On the contrary, Optimus will be an “extraordinarily powerful robot”. Musk has spoken twice about the risks of artificial intelligence, this time he came out as a big advocate. According to him, a mass-produced robot like Optimus has the potential to “transform civilization” and create “a future of prosperity, a future without poverty”.

In the future, according to him, robots will be used in families, watering flowers, cutting grass, caring for trees, or even becoming sexual companions or partners for people.

At the same time, however, he said he believes Tesla’s shareholders should influence the company’s deal first. “If I get angry, you can fire me. This is due, “said Musk, who, like everyone else, wore a black t-shirt with the motif of robotic hands folded in the shape of a heart.

The first reaction from the experts was positive. “The price of twenty thousand dollars is very attractive, because current humanoid robots cost about one hundred thousand dollars,” Henri Ben Amor, professor of robotics at Arizona State University, told Reuters. According to him, however, there is a clear difference between Tesla’s ambitions and what has been achieved so far. “What about the ability to walk constantly or the ability to grasp objects takes a lot of work.” His Carnegie Mellon University colleague Aaron Johnson, in turn, questions the commercial perspective of the entire project. “It’s really amazing that they’ve gotten to such a high level so quickly. What’s becoming clear is how they could be used so Tesla can sell millions,” Johnson thought.
