The White House issued an official statement in response to the controversy surrounding a post by Elon Musk on his own online platform X earlier this week, with which the former Twitter, Tesla and Starlink owner unequivocally agreed with the claim, that Jews instill hatred against white people.

“It is unacceptable to repeat the disgusting lie behind the most fatal act of anti-Semitism in American history at any time, let alone one month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said of Musk. and his post of November 15.

Representatives for Musk or X were not immediately available for comment on the White House statement, Reuters reported.

A day after Musk announced his support for a foreign publication that said members of the Jewish community were inciting hatred against white people (“that’s the very truth,” Musk said), X CEO Linda Iaccarino wrote:

“X has been crystal clear about our efforts to fight anti-Semitism and discrimination. There is no place for this anywhere in the world – it’s ugly and wrong. Period.”

Also on Thursday, IBM announced that it had immediately suspended all of its ads on X, following the publication of a report that indicated that IBM ads were being shown next to content promoting Adolf Hitler and Nazism.

Anti-Semitic and Islamophobic hate speech thrives in X because of lax controls

The decline in advertisers has been one of the problems X has faced since Musk bought the platform in October 2022 and significantly reduced content moderation. This led to a sharp increase in hate speech on the former Twitter, various civil rights organizations found in an analysis of examples of posts reported for hate speech.

In September Musk met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who urged him to normalize controls on anti-Semitism on the X social media platform.

“I’m against attacking any group,” Musk told Netanyahu, adding that he supports anything that moves civilization forward and allows it to understand the nature of the universe. “We can’t do that if we’re facing a lot of internal strife, hatred… Obviously I’m against anti-Semitism, against anything that promotes hatred and conflict.”

Anti-Semitic incidents in the United States have increased nearly 400 percent since the start of the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, which began with the Hamas attack last month, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

Earlier this year, Musk threatened to sue the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). He blamed the organization for the drop in X’s ad revenue over claims of increased hate speech on its platform.

“The ADL unfairly attacks the majority of the West, even though the majority of the West supports the Jewish people and Israel. This is because they cannot, according to their own principles, criticize the minority groups that are their main threat,” Musk wrote in a comment under the topic against ADL in X.
