The surprise was great when Elon Musk (48) and his partner, singer Grimes (32), announced the name of their baby born in early May: X Æ A-12. Now the two experience a setback in naming.
–
Because although in California the scope for naming is relatively large, descendants may not be named with numbers there. The name X Æ A-12 is therefore not permissible only because of the last two digits.
–
The name remains cryptic
Tesla founder Elon Musk wouldn’t be Elon Musk if he didn’t have a Plan B. Instead of the two numbers, the digits are now replaced by Roman numerals: X Æ A-XII. In this spelling, the name corresponds to the bills of the US state on the west coast.
–
What the name stands for, the Canadian child mother revealed on Twitter. X stands for the unknown variable, Æ denote love «and / or artificial intelligence» in their elven language, A-12 stands for their favorite plane and A is their favorite song «Archangel».

Parents do not agree on the pronunciation
How the name, which was the idea of Grimes, is pronounced, revealed the tech billionaire in an interview with comedian Joe Rogan (52). Everything is said as it is, Æ is the English word “Ash”. That means: “Ex-Ash-A-Twelve”. The theory doesn’t quite work out if you follow his girlfriend’s explanation. Then it would say: “Ex-A-I-A-Twelve”

And even if the parents are not sure about the correct pronunciation of the child’s name, one thing is already clear: The son of Grimes and Elon Musk will have to explain his name for a lifetime. (imh)
