Elkerliek Hospital in Helmond Faces Uncertainty with VGZ Contract

The Elkerliek hospital in Helmond still does not have a contract with health insurer VGZ. Insured persons who do receive hospital care in the institution are assured that their care will be reimbursed as usual, but will this still be the case if a less favorable contract is introduced? This is reported by Eindhovens Dagblad.

In VGZ’s care finder, the insurer at Elkerliek states that there is no contract, but that the care is reimbursed. That’s great for insured people who want or need to receive their care in the Helmond hospital. The healthcare costs are simply reimbursed according to the conditions. Insured parties and patients have been informed of this, VGZ said.

No provisional turnover ceiling

Elkerliek says that the ongoing discussions are constructive and that people do not have to worry about whether their care will be reimbursed. Professor Wynand van de Ven of Erasmus University believes that the hospital and VGZ have resolved the situation properly. “It also does not state that there is a turnover ceiling, as is sometimes agreed.” It may of course be the case that the conditions will be less favorable if there is a contract. But VGZ is not making any statements about this now. Van de Ven suspects that policyholders will then be given the opportunity to choose a different policy and that the insurer will grant leniency.
