“Elephant Enters Residential Area in Kambam Due to Lorry’s Horn, Officials Issue Prohibitory Order”

Kambam ∙ A lorry’s horn was the reason why Arikomban, who was walking along the road towards Kambammett area, turned towards the residential area. The lorry driver noticed that the elephant, which had stayed at Kaluthamedu on Friday night, was walking along the road at six in the morning yesterday. As the frightened driver kept honking his horn, the pale elephant crossed the national highway and entered the residential area.

With this, the officials started the mic announcement that people should not come out. All the open shops were closed by the police. Locals chased the elephant on two-wheelers and on foot. The police tried several times to push them back, but the people did not disperse. The Theni district administration issued a prohibitory order in Kampam municipal limits around 2 pm.

There are 2 ration shops 50 meters away from the paddy field. Locals also say that arikompan was stationed in the vicinity of a shop in the morning. After knocking on its door with its trunk, the elephant settled in the tamarind garden.

A deep cut can be seen on the trunk of the rice plant. The preliminary conclusion of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department is that the injury occurred during the demolition of the shed. The forest department also feels that this makes the elephant more restless.

Is drug addiction dangerous?

24 hours after the elephant is drugged, the drug is no longer present in the body. You may feel tired for up to two days, but you can take the next dose anytime after that. It does not affect the elephant’s health. It has been a month since Arikompan was drugged and now there is no problem in getting shot again.
