It was just after midnight when the police received a report of a traffic accident between an electric park cyclist and a car just below Bybrua in the direction of Stavanger city center.
The electric park cyclist, a man in his 30s, was seriously injured and died on Saturday morning in hospital. Relatives have been notified, the police say.
It was a man in his 20s who drove the car. Earlier Saturday, the police reported that he was not physically injured as a result of the accident, but that he is being followed up by health.
– There is no suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or alcohol, wrote operations manager Irene Ragnhildstveit in a press release.
They both live in Nord-Jæren, according to the police.
Forensic technicians from the police have together with the accident group of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration worked with investigations on the spot through the night.
– There were several witnesses to the accident and several witness interviews have been conducted on the spot, the operations manager stated.
The police believe they have a certain overview of the course of events, but further write that there is still some investigation left before they can draw a final conclusion.
Earlier Saturday, on-duty lawyer, police attorney Bjarte Myklebust, said Stavanger Aftenblad that both parties had been charged with a breach of section 3 of the Road Traffic Act on considerate traffic.
– We have given both accused status, without the police having yet taken a position on who was to blame for the accident. This means that we keep all possibilities open about what was the cause, Myklebust told the newspaper.
