Electric crossover Hyundai drove over 1000 km without recharging :: Autonews

Hyundai has set a new world record for the highest mileage on a single charge in a production electric car. The compact crossover Kona was able to travel more than 1000 kilometers on a single battery charge.

The record was set in a three-day test on the German Lausitzring track. The total test time was about 35 hours. During this time, three compact crossovers covered the distance of 1018, 1024 and 1026 km without replenishing the battery supply.

All vehicles were equipped with a standard 64 kWh battery pack and standard Nexen low rolling resistance tires. Air conditioning and infotainment systems have been turned off to maximize energy savings.

The groups of pilots – one from the German automotive magazine Auto Bild and two from the Hyundai Motor Deutschland division – traveled at speeds ranging from 29 to 31 km per hour. On the third day of testing, each crossover managed to drive over 20 km with a residual battery charge of 3%. When the systems showed zero charge, the cars covered a few hundred more meters before coming to a complete stop.

The previously “charged” hatchback Hyundai i30 N entered the Russian Book of Records as the car that showed the highest average speed during a 1000 km race on the ice of Lake Baikal. The hot hatch drove for nine hours across the frozen lake at an average speed of 110 km per hour.
