The best-selling car in Europe in August was also the Dacia Sandero.
The new car market in Europe saw a historic breakthrough in August. Authorities registered more new vehicles with batteries in one month than diesel cars.
It follows from the data published by JATO Dynamics. In August, there was a further drop in the number of registrations by a total of 18%, when a total of 713 thousand new cars applied. This is a decrease which is not caused by insufficient demand as a lack of parts for the production of new vehicles.
For the whole year from January to August, more vehicles have been sold so far than last year for the same period.
“The lack of chips is still a major problem for the entire industry. The cessation of production and deliveries with long delays cause people to either postpone the purchase of new cars or buy used cars,“Said Felipe Munoz, chief analyst at JATO Dynamics.
In August, a total of 151,737 vehicles were sold that can only run with electric propulsion. Year-on-year, the category of electric cars and plug-in hybrids increased by 61%. Together, this type of drive already has 21% of the entire market. “While these figures obviously affect the various incentives to buy electric cars, we are seeing a fundamental change in consumer demand and behavior in the market.” added Munoz. Sales of electric cars surpassed diesel cars by ten thousand cars.
Sales of new cars in Europe are dominated by Dacia Sandero for the second month in a row, which in July surpassed the long-standing number one, the Volkswagen Golf model. Dacia is experiencing successful months, the Duster model reached the top five best-selling cars in August.
