The company would like the increase to take effect on July 4. There are plans to increase prices at each toll collection point, on the 60-kilometer-long section of the A4 from Katowice to Krakow, i.e. in Mysłowice and Balice.

“We are forced to change toll rates due to the increase in motorway maintenance and investment costs, related to, among others, recently rising prices of services, building materials and energy carriers“- explained the changes Rafał Czechowski, spokesman for the Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska company.

General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways There is no formal possibility to force the concessionaire to change plans, but representatives of GDDKiA asked Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska (SAM) to consider all the circumstances that could affect a change in the raise proposal.

– We noticed the significant scale of the increase and the fact that the traffic forecasts, on the basis of which the decision to increase the fees were made, did not take into account the war in Ukraine that started on February 24. This conflict has a significant impact on both social and economic issues and cannot be ignored in the analyzes of future traffic on the A4 motorway, informed GDDKiA.

Therefore, the management called on the company to it withheld the planned rate hike until the political situation on the eastern border of Poland stabilized.

The management also notes that higher travel costs may encourage truck drivers to avoid the motorway and use local roads that are already heavily loaded with traffic. “This, on the other hand, is associated with a decrease in the level of safety of both drivers and other road users, as well as residents of the surrounding towns,” argues the GDDKiA statement.

The network of expressways in Poland is currently 4,631.5 km long. It includes 1,753.6 km of motorways and 2,877.9 km of expressways. The tolls apply to some sections of the motorways managed by GDDKiA: A2 Konin – Stryków and A4 Wrocław – Sośnica (261.4 km in total), as well as on three concession sections.
