Together with the local elections, the local representation of the foreign residents of the city of Darmstadt will also be directly elected on Sunday. Eligible voters can give 21 votes.

Nine electoral lists have been approved for the election to the City of Darmstadt’s Foreigners Advisory Council, which will take place together with the local elections on Sunday, March 14th. According to the numbering on the ballot, you can choose from: Roja Kurdistan, followed by the Somali Union in Darmstadt, Polonia Darmstadt, the Progressive Foreigners Union, the list “Die Internationale”, the Kultur- und Bildungsverein Darmstadt as well as the Voice for Darmstadt lists , Diversity Darmstadt and solidarity. As with local elections, there is the possibility of cumulating and variegating; everyone entitled to vote can give 21 votes.

Mayor Jochen Partsch (Greens) and Ümit Cengiz, the chairman of the Foreigners’ Advisory Board and top candidate of the “vote for Darmstadt”, call on all non-German residents of the city to take part in the election on Sunday.

According to Partsch, the Foreigners Advisory Council with its right to propose and speak in the city parliament represents the interests of foreign residents in the city very confidently. The body is also a “central component of local democracy”.

Advisory board chairman Cengiz said the body would be heard by those in charge of politics in Darmstadt. “Therefore, I ask all those entitled to vote: Use your right to vote and actively help shape the work of the Foreigners’ Advisory Board.”

The advisory board for foreigners, which represents the city’s foreign residents, including citizens of the European Union, is directly elected. For the first time, the elections in Hesse will take place together with the local elections. This is intended to achieve a higher turnout.
