Elderly Association opens telephone line for lonely elderly due to coronavirus | NOW

The Dutch General Association for the Elderly (ANBO) has opened a special telephone line on Wednesday afternoon for the elderly who feel lonely now that they have fewer visitors due to the outbreak of the corona virus.

Earlier on Wednesday, NU.nl reported that elderly people and family caregivers are threatening to receive less visitors and attention from the advancing corona virus. Children and grandchildren decide to cancel visits in the event of minor cold symptoms and there is a risk that activities for seniors will also put a stop to it.

The ANBO Elderly Association recognizes this sound among its members and decided to launch the special song. “I know elderly people who don’t talk to anyone all day because they no longer go to clubs or the supermarket,” says Bernadet Naber, spokesperson for ANBO, in conversation with NU.nl. “They can come to us to catch up on the conversation that they missed out on because of the corona virus outbreak.”

Older people can also contact the telephone line for general questions about the coronavirus. The elderly are referred to the RIVM or the GP for specialist questions.

The elderly can reach the ANBO at 0348-466666.
