The maquilishuat
Thanks to its beauty, the maquilistuat (next to the balm) was declared a national tree of El Salvador by Legislative Decree on September 1, 1939. It is one of the most attractive species in the entire national territory, thanks to its wonderful pink flowers. These trees, which adorn the landscape of fields and roads, are a spectacle of nature.
Contemplate a maquilishuat tree covered with its flowers It is a treat for the eyes of people. It is the impressive union of its flower bouquets, in its most extensive variety of all pink, which makes this species special.
The scientific name of the fire tree is “Tabebuia Rosea” and is also known as “macuil”, “maquiligua” or “maculigua”. Its name comes from Nahuatl (Mexico) macuil: five and isguat: leaf. It has great beauty and can reach a height of up to 25 meters.

White cortex
Surely on your way you have contemplated tall trees covered with bright yellow flowers. It is the white cortex, which is another of the wonderful trees of El Salvador. The common name of this species has nothing to do with the color of the flowers but with its bark, which is white.
In its flowering season, this tree attracts a lot of attention, since it totally loses its leaves, being full of thick yellow flower bouquets. It is that peculiarity that makes it special and what most impresses.
