Photo: Guido Chuleck Back in January, the old Eisenheim town council had decided to convert its two districts, Unter- and Obereisenheim, into speed 30 zones across the board. The result was wafer-thin with 6: 5, in the most recent council meeting this decision was put to the test of the new council with seven new council members and a new mayor. After some discussion, the council unanimously decided to have an expert from the Verkehrswacht Würzburg take a look at everything on site and only then go on with the matter. The tenor of the council meeting: If Tempo 30 signs had to be put up at all, then only at certain points on the streets that seduce the lawn. Tempo 30 already applies to Langgasse in Untereisenheim, and because of the junctions and many parked vehicles, most drivers inevitably stick to it. Photo: Guido Chuleck – Optical impairment At the January meeting, Mayor Christian Holzinger opened the discussion at the most recent meeting, there was no mention of a matter, namely the costs. Holzinger estimated it to be around 5000 euros for 24 to 26 signs in both districts plus two to three weeks of additional work for the building yard. “The workers would also have to install the signs in the places that we renovated during the village renewal, and that would optically destroy the new roads,” continued Holzinger. “We should get a lot of criticism from the citizens for that.” In the meantime, the district office had also announced that it would never introduce speed 30 because of the two district streets WÜ 4 and WÜ 57, but would at most put up warning signs. The district office did not even allow arguments such as “kindergarten”, “sports field” and also “Festplatz Obereisenheim”. From the entrance to the town, here in Untereisenheim, the old town council wanted to have Tempo 30. The new council postponed this decision for the time being. Photo: Guido Chuleck – Claus Hochrein found that too many signs in the two places would make no sense. “Two to three yes, maybe at the cemetery, but otherwise nobody drives faster than 30 km / h because of the narrow streets and the narrow buildings,” he said. In addition, speed 30 would be canceled at each intersection, which would bring another sign. Frank Deubner saw it similarly and advocated “a maximum of six signs”. Markus Bursch would like to have Tempo 30 everywhere, but could imagine selective Tempo 30 zones, for example where four or five places meet. “We don’t have to put up signs on every dirt road that leads to the towns,” said the mayor, which would then really lead to a sign forest. Rudi Heim also fears this, because in his view signs should then be put up on all field and vineyard trails. The Landwehrstrasse in Untereisenheim is already reduced to 30 km / h, which many drivers don’t really notice. Photo: Guido Chuleck – Rainer Schenk was not happy with the whole discussion. “We should implement the decision and make the places traffic-calmed so that nobody can drive through there anymore,” he argues, “I’m thinking of Landwehrstrasse or Grabenstrasse in Untereisenheim.” Although speed 30 applies on the Landwehrstraße anyway, not too many drivers stick to the sign. Ultimately, the council unanimously decided to postpone the decision on “Tempo 30 in Unter- and Obereisenheim” and to include the expert council. Four signs would be necessary for the intersection Landwehrstrasse / Schulstrasse / Grabenstrasse / Langgasse, and the Ringgasse branches off to the right.
