An eight-year-old was shot dead in Atlanta, Georgia. The girl was in a car with her mother and friend at the time of the incident, local media reported on Sunday (local time), citing the police. The friend wanted to drive to a parking lot on Saturday evening when a group of gunmen approached the vehicle and blocked his access, it said. Several shots were fired at the vehicle from the group. The child was fatally injured. The girl later died in the hospital.
The scene of the action was reported to be near the fast food restaurant where Black Rayshard Brooks was killed in a police operation in mid-June. The restaurant had gone up in flames the night after the crime. Since then, the site has been occupied by demonstrators.
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said at a press conference on Sunday evening that at least two people had fired shots at the car. She asked witnesses to help clarify the fact.
