Egypt Opens Border to Help Badly Injured Palestinians

KAIRO, KOMPAS.com- Egypt help Palestine opened the border between Rafah and Gaza Strip on Saturday (15/5/2021), to allow 10 ambulances to transport Palestinians who was seriously injured headed for the Egyptian hospital.

Egypt “has tremendously opened the Rafah border to allow 10 Egyptian ambulances into the Gaza Strip transporting injured Palestinians … to Egypt for treatment,” Egyptian health officials said. AFP on Saturday (15/5/2021).

A Gaza border official said the opening was “extraordinary” because it is usually closed during national holidays, including Eid.

This year the border in Egypt should be closed from Wednesday (10/5/2021) to Sunday (16/5/2021).

Egypt’s public health authorities said on Friday (14/5/2021) that holidays were suspended for a number of doctors and nurses in preparation for receiving “those (patients) who came from the Gaza Strip”.

The Rafah border line is usually open on weekdays.

Medical officials in the Gaza Strip said the attack Israel has killed 139 people, including 39 children, since Monday (10/5/2021). Meanwhile, around 950 people were injured

Rocket fire by Hamas armed forces, has killed 9 people in Israel, including children and soldiers.

The attack was said to be in retaliation against Hamas which launched rockets in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

But before that, Israeli police had harassed Palestinian worshipers at the Al-Aqsa mosque.

Apart from that, Israel has also carried out the expulsion of Palestinians, which Israel planned from their homes in annexed east Jerusalem.

The high priest of Egypt’s famous Al-Azhar mosque and university, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, on Friday evening local time (14/5/2021) campaigned on social media to “support the Palestinian people”.

“Stop the killing,” he said.

“Enough with silence and double standards, if we really strive towards peace,” he explained.
