Egypt Implements Cashless Payment System for Tourist Attractions and Museums

Innovation in action

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has issued a circular stating that a number of archaeological sites and museums are now using a cashless payment system to purchase entrance tickets.

About it informs Egypt Independent.

“Cash payments are suspended in full, transactions are carried out through non-cash payments,” the statement said.

The ministry said this is a continuation of its plan for a comprehensive digital transformation and helping the Egyptian state transition to cashless payments.

Currently, the system extends to visiting the pyramids of Giza, the citadel of Salah ad-Din al-Ayyubi, the unfinished obelisk and temple of Edfu, the city of Kom Ombo, the island of Philae and the rock of Abu Simbel in Aswan, the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir and the Nubian Museum.

As explained in the ministry, there are several ways to buy tickets by bank transfer. For travel companies – purchase through the Ticket Center at the Ministry of Tourism of Egypt, or by transfer from account to account, or by bank card. It is also possible to pay for tickets already on the spot by a guide, a representative of a travel company – using an Egyptian bank card, or buying tickets online on the Egy Monuments website.

Independent tourists can pay for tickets with bank cards at the box office or vending machines, as well as online.

Reminder:

Before the war Egypt has been among the most popular tourist destinations in Ukraine.
