LThe King closed his consultations with the presidents of the parties that were involved in the political discussions after the elections. On the basis of the elements provided during these discussions, the King accepted the resignation of Bart De Wever (N-VA) and Paul Magnette (PS). The King instructed Egbert Lachaert (Open VLD) to take the necessary initiatives allowing the establishment of a government which relies on a large majority in parliament. Egbert Lachaert accepted this mission and will make a first report to the King on August 28.
“The country is going through one of the biggest crises since World War II,” said Egbert Lachaert after his appointment. We need a strong government, with broad support and a balanced policy. In difficult times, politics must transcend its differences. We still have a few weeks to create a full-fledged government at the service of the people. This mission will be carried out with complete discretion, in order to create the necessary trust between the parties. “
The SP.A respects for its part the choice of King Philippe to entrust a mission to the president of the Open VLD. “If all the parties are ready to transcend themselves, a government can be formed”, say the Flemish socialists. “The MR is fully mobilized for the establishment of a federal government with a majority within it, for his part tweeted Georges-Louis Bouchez.
