The high mountain of the third stage put Miguel Ángel López and Egan Bernal in the top 10 of the general of La Vuelta a España. They withstood a demanding climb crowned by the new leader Rein Taaramae. The one from Ineos is the best young man in the race.
The flat start of the fraction prompted the desire to escape from eight riders who defied the lot and the crosswinds on the straights that prevailed after leaving Santo Domingo de Silos.
They took a nine-minute lead, until the group accelerated to three-and-a-half minutes at the start of the competition’s first high mountain pass. The road entered a funnel with little room for everyone on this first ascent in the history of La Vuelta.
Movistar was one of those who pulled the lot on the rise. Miguel “Superman” López was the best of ours on that slope that he won a few years ago in La Vuelta a Burgos. The step of the Spanish squad was high and the Boyacense finished sixth 1:48 of the escaped Rein Taaramae, winner and new leader of the general.
“I will go up to my rhythm” announced Egan Bernal, glued to the Primoz Roglic wheel, with no one from the Jumbo for the slope of up to 18 percent incline. Richard Carapaz had a hard time in herd mode. He ended up relegated to the limelight on a day to suit him.
Bernal leads the youth classification. He arrived with the same time as López in 11th place.
On Tuesday, August 17, the fourth day will be run. The competition leaves Burgos and will head to the interior of the country with a flat route of 163.6 kilometers between El Burgo de Osma and Molina de Aragón.
