‘Eemdijk football club in mourning after the death of two young men’ | Inland

VV Eemdijk says on their website that 27-year-old selection player William Berendse has died. He has been part of the club’s A-selection for two seasons. “He was also very popular outside the lines. He was such a positive boy, he fit very well in the group. Also always willing to roll up his sleeves and do something for the club,” says chairman Menno Veldhuizen.

On their website, the club wishes the loved ones of Berendse all the strength in processing the immeasurable loss.

‘Appropriate farewell’

According to RTV Utrecht, the second boy would be a Spakenburg supporter. In a tweet, the supporters association writes: “Lub, a blue in heart and soul. Always ready for everyone. We as HKS will therefore give you an appropriate farewell.”

Not natural cause of death

According to the regional broadcaster, the police received two reports of unwellness on Saturday evening. Emergency services attended the scene, but the two were unable to be rescued. In both cases an unnatural death was noted. According to RTV Utrecht concerns separate reports, “but it is possible that the two young people were together”.

A volunteer from the club tells a press photographer that the death of the two young men has hit like a bomb: “It is a major blow to the club.”
