Educational Guide Dialogues between Artists: Exploring Art and Pandemic with Women Artists

In search of bringing new artistic expressions to the public, the San Juan Art League, together with the University of Puerto Rico Library System, presents the Educational Guide Dialogues between Artistsseries In own voice y Art and pandemic. This project, created as a platform for dialogue between contemporary creators, is designed to show the evolution of the plastic arts in times of pandemic and the role of women artists in the current scene.

Under the direction of Marilú Carrasquillo, the San Juan Art League has worked to promote the appreciation and understanding of the visual arts in Puerto Rican society. Its program of cultural experiences, “ExploreArt @ la Liga”, has stood out for bringing art to diverse audiences, and now, in collaboration with the Arts and Music Collection of the University of Puerto Rico Library System, it leads to carry out this very important educational initiative.

The presentation of the Educational Guide Dialogues between Artistsseries In own voice y Art and pandemic will take place on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Jorge Enjuto Room (Room A) of the Faculty of Humanities. This event is an open invitation to students and staff of the Concentration in Women and Gender Studies at the University of Puerto Rico, as well as the general public.

The Guide, presented by writer Vanessa Droz. along with the participation of the curators Margarita Fernández Zavala and José David Miranda, it is the complement of eight dialogues in which 16 artists participate. These dialogues are divided into two main themes: In own voice y Art and pandemic. The Serie In own voice explores the voices and perspectives of prominent women artists, including couples such as Rosa Irigoyen and Lillian Nieves, Frances Gallardo and Frances Vanessa Rivera, Nayda Collazo-Lloréns and Ivellise Jiménez, and Edra Soto and Ana Rosa Rivera. For its part, the series Art and pandemic addresses the impact of the health crisis on plastic creation through conversations between artists such as Elizabeth Magaly Robles and Melquiades Rosario, Edgard Rodríguez Luiggi and Marcelino Puig, Martín García and Yolanda Velázquez, and Dhara Rivera and Ada Bobonis.

This project has been possible thanks to the support of Humanidades Puerto Rico (Puerto Rican Foundation for the Humanities), the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Flamboyán Fund for the Arts. The collaboration with the Arts and Music Collection of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, expands the scope of this initiative and strengthens its impact on the community.

The presentation of the Educational Guide Dialogues between Artistsseries In own voice y Art and pandemic It promises to open new perspectives on the visual arts in the current context and enrich the cultural panorama of Puerto Rico. This event offers attendees the unique opportunity to explore art from various angles and discover the diversity of voices that contribute to the cultural enrichment of the island.
