Supporters of students in situations of handicap (AESH) are on strike on Tuesday, October 3, at the call of several education unions. They are demanding better working conditions, an upgrade of their status, which they consider precarious, but above all an increase in their income. The entry salary into the profession was increased during the summer to 896 euros monthly net for 24 hours of work per week. This is insufficient, according to the unions. THE AESH also wish to be recognized as category B civil servants.

6,500 recruitments planned for the school year

According to a senatorial report published in May, 430,000 children with disabilities are educated in ordinary schools in France. 288,000 should benefit from support, for only 125,000 AESH in total. Faced with the lack of support workers, the Ministry of National Education is planning 6,500 recruitments for the 2023-2024 school year.
